Beethoven and Blue Jeans: Yuletide Celebration

The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra performs holiday favorites that will delight the entire family. The Kenner performance includes the St. Edward the Confessor Choir, the Hammond performance includes the Southeastern Louisiana University Chorus and Northshore Choral Society and the Slidell performance includes the Clearwood Junior High. The production includes selections from The Nutcracker, It’s a Wonderful Life, the Polar Express and, of course, some sing-along options.

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis

Join the Mannheim Steamroller and Chip Davis in celebrating the group’s 30th anniversary of its first Christmas album. Experience the magic of the season with the signature sound of Mannheim Steamroller combined with dazzling multimedia effects.

Elf the Musical

Dec. 18 – 23
Saenger Theatre, New Orleans
Buddy, an orphan, sneaks into Santa’s sleigh and is transported to the North Pole. They figure out he’s human and not an elf because he continues to grow, and his toy-making skills leave much to be desired. Santa lets Buddy go to New York to find his family and in the process, Buddy helps them and New York rediscover the meaning of Christmas.

Slidell’s Bayou Christmas

Dec. 19 – 23
Heritage Park, Slidell
It’s a holiday festival for the whole family. There’re lighted Christmas displays featuring 80,000 lights and the animation is synced to holiday music. Get a picture with Santa, enjoy performances by local choirs, choruses and dance groups.

“A Natchez Christmas Carol”

Dec. 6 – 22
Natchez Little Theatre
Enjoy a Southern version of the well-known Charles Dickens tale of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge redeeming himself after visits from three Christmas ghosts. “A Natchez Christmas Carol” is an original holiday musical featuring beloved Christmas carols and 19th Century costumes.

Enjoy a traditional Christmas experience for the whole family beginning with the reading of the “Night Before Christmas,” some great caroling and then a performance of The Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker- A Tale from the Bayou

Baton Rouge
Cajun Clara helps transport the audience to the magical world of dancing azaleas and snow-covered oak trees in the bayou version of this classic Christmas tale. Featuring world-class guest artists and accompanied by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra the production includes more than 300 community children and local dancers.

Holiday Light Safari

Dec. 14 – 23
Alexandria Zoo
Stroll through the Alexandria Zoo and experience the holiday season with thousands of sparkling lights along with whimsical lighted animal figures. There’s the holiday train ride, a visit with Santa and children’s activity area.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Dec. 13 and 16
Essanee Theatre, New Iberia
Directed by Vincent Barras, the adaptation of Frank Capra’s timeless holiday classic will surely put you in the Christmas spirit. Meet George Bailey, whose dreams of adventure have been flattened by family obligations, his employment and civic duty. He questions why he was even born. A guardian angel finds him on Christmas Eve and shows him what the world would have been like if he hadn’t been born. And, it turns out, he’s led a wonderful life after all.
